CHARLESTON, IL -- Paul Thomas "Tommy" Blum, age 75 of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, October 10 (2002) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (October 13) with Pastor Larry Morecraft officiating. Visitation, beginning at noon, will be held for two hours prior to the Services. Services and Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive in Charleston. Following the Services, Interment with Military Rites conducted by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592 of Charleston will be held in Roselawn Cemetery.
Tommy was born August 10, 1927, in Charleston the son of Thomas T. and Frances (Chism) Blum.
He is survived by five nephews, Morris Weaver and his wife Joyce of Tuscola, Illinois, Jerry Irwin and his special friend Charlotte of Charleston, Bill Blum and his wife Anika of Sweden, Paul Blum of California and Robert Blum and his wife Dixie of Sulphur, Louisiana, and; nine nieces, Clarice Evans and her husband Gene and Debbie Updegraff and her husband Dennis, all of Westfield, Illinois, Susie Wilson and her husband Jim of Marshall, Illinois, Cathy Hall and her husband Dr. Jeff of Wellsville, Utah, Roxanne Vincent and her husband Rodney and Becky Drost, all of Sulphur, Francine Davidson and her husband Chuck and Tammie Blum, all of Hurst, Texas and Cheryl Self of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded by his parents; three sisters, Agnes Thein, Mabel Weaver and Mert Evans, and; three brothers, John Blum, Bill Blum and Lewis Thurman Blum.
Tommy was a Military Veteran, having served during the Vietnam Conflict with the United States Army. His life centered 'round his nephews and nieces, their families and horses. He not only raced horses, but was a well-known and respected trainer of Standardbred and Trotters. Many will remember Tommy as a Meat Cutter at the Ruskin Thompson Grocery Store, the Charleston and Mahomet (IL) IGA Supermarkets and later as a Driver for the local taxi company.
Tommy's family requests that memorial gifts in his honor be made to the American Heart Association. Gifts may be left on the Memorial Table at the Visitation or Services, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, Illinois 61920.
