Mr. Hughes was the son of Augustus (Gus) Hughes and Flora Works Hughes.
Mr. Hughes was survived by his wife, Mattie Barnhill Hughes; one sister, Mrs. Orlie Dunn, Harrison County; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Hughes was predeceased by two brothers, Lester Hughes of Bethel, Ohio and Roy D. Hughes of Cincinnati, Ohio, and one sister, Mrs. Loretta Hughes Fields (Moses Fields) of Leesburg, Harrison CO, Ky.
Mr. Hughes was a member of the Mt. Gilead Methodist Church. He was a farmer and a Kentucky Colonel.
Funeral services were held August 28, 1975. Active pallbearers were Lindsay Warth, John Hill, Paul Clifford, Russell Shropshire, R. L. Smut) Palmer, Ernest mCClain, Clyde Haley, and C. A. Garnett. Honorary bearers were Eldon Conway, Charles Wiglesworth, Joe Jarvis, J. Thaxter Sims, John T. Dawson, Gaines Leach, Dr. C. L. Thornberry, John Swinford, Dr. A. C. Wright, and J. D. Whitaker.
