He moved to Illinois near Chandlerville with his parents in early childhood, where he grew to manhood, later coming to Crawford Co. Kansas where he met his future wife Rachel Ann EWING and was married at Leroy, Mo. May 5, 1878.
To this union nine children were born, six boys and three girls: Chauncy and Fronia of Forgan; Laura of Monte Vista, Colo.; Nora of Boise city; James H. of Stonington, Colo.; William and Fred of Pasadena, Calif.; the two sons preceding him were Frank W., Oct. 2, 1916, and Ancel H. killed in France in the World War.
He with his family moved to Beaver Co. in 1905 and filed on the homestead near Forgan, where they lived until the departure of his companion, May 29, 1917, having spent 40 years together.
He married Lizzie WEAVER, May 12, 1920, who survives him.
He received a hope in Christ in the early 80's, united and was baptised in Primitive Baptist by Elder HOGGETT and was a member of Good Hope church at his going. This strong faith he made manifest until the end. His family has lost a father indeed, his church a jewel and his neighbors a friend in time of need.
He leaves to mourn, his widow, seven children, seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one sister and a host of relatives and friends.
