However, according to the "National Park Service, Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System" web site, and Ancestry.com/American War Soldiers, "Russel" D. Benedict enlisted on 28 July 1864 as a Private in Company A, 8th Regiment, Michigan Cavalry. He joined the Regiment on 22 August, 1864 at Marietta, Georgia and died of disease on 23 February, 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee.
