Maudie O. Wheeles, 99, of Erie, Kansas died at 1:35 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at Labette Health in Parsons.

She was born in Parsons, Kansas, October 7, 1909, the daughter of Albert and Angeline "Lina" (Hankins) White.

She graduated from Erie High School in 1927.

She married Cleo Isom "Slats" Wheeles, Dec. 14, 1935 in Parsons Kansas. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1983.

She was a member of the Federated Church, American Legion and V.F.W. auxiliaries, and she was a volunteer for the Senior Center, delivering meals on wheels.

She enjoyed gardening, quilting and ceramics.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Wheeles and wife Karen Ozawkie, KS, and Gene Wheeles of Spring City, PA; five grandsons, Barry Wheeles, and wife Karen and daughter Katherine of Overland Park, KS, Bryan Wheeles, wife Jeri and children Leah and Jacob of Topeka, KS, Patrick Wheeles, wife Carlee, and daughter Cassandra of Lansdale, PA; Michael Wheeles and wife Katie of Barre, VT, and Phillip Wheeles and wife Kim Dottown, of PA.

Preceding her in death was her husband; four brothers, Ira White, Clarence White, and John White; and a sister, Agnes Beard.

Funeral service will be at the Erie Federated Church, with Revs. Larry Jordan and John Turner officiating. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery, Erie, KS.

Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Erie, KS is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to either the Federated Church, the Erie War Memorial or the Erie Meals on Wheels program.
