With numerous people participating, the burial of the well-known organization man (business man) Bernard H. Rothove took place Friday morning from the house of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Schonlau at 8:30. The procession went to the Mary's Help Church, where the Reverend F. Holusick from Rheinland Mo. was celebrant and Frs. Ehlenz and Wieberg from Mary's Help as deacon and sub-deacon celebrated Solemn Requiem and after which they accompanied the deceased to the grave at Calvary Cemetery. Functioning as Pall Bearers were the Mr.'s, Hu Sextro, H.B. Rueszken, Frank Peters, William Hofsschwello, Amial Fahntrape, and John Ebthal from the Mary's Help Men's Sodality. The other arrangements of celebration were handled by the George Boekers L & V Company.
Mr. Bernard H. Rothove was born on 17 May 1845. His parents lived for a while on North Market St. and which time they belonged to St. Joseph Parish, from where they soon moved to Taos, Mo. onto a farm. The young Rothove proved himself talented, learned eagerly and was trained as a school teacher, which calling he practiced for several years until he later returned to St. Louis and worked in different businesses and positions. Mr. Rothove was married on the 19th of September 1871 to Miss Margretha Schepers by Father Farber in St. Mary's Church. His spouse died on 17 October 1917. The very happy marriage yielded 7 children of whom two died as children.
The remaining, namely Marie Schonlau, Elisbeth Rothove, Rev. Sister Antonine (S.S. De Notredame), John C. Rothove, Charles M. Rothove mourned the deceased. Further mourning the deceased is a Son-in-law Jospeh F. Schonlau and a daughter-in-law, Nellie Rothove born Feltrop, also several cousins and second cousins. The deceased was loved and well thought of by all because of his strict life (clean living). He was a member of Mary's Help benefit society, of St. Joseph benefit Society and a member as well as founder of Mary's Help Men's' Sodality, which he celebrated the silver members jubilee in the year 1912 with only two others, namely Mr. B.H. Ruszken who still is living, and Mr. Bernard Funke who died on Friday, on the day of the burial of Mr. Rothove.
