Mrs. Berns had worked at Kmart. She was born April 23, 1933, in Irwin, the daughter of John Emmett and Madeline Dion Sullivan. She was a former 4-H leader for the Herscher Pals and enjoyed crafts and sewing.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Berns, whom she married Feb. 23, 1952 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Rhonda Berns, Andrew and Tammy Berns, all of Herscher; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Jim Walck of Galesburg, Madelyn and Tom McGann of Joliet, Deborah and Kevin Weller of Cullom; one sister, Constance Sullivan of Bourbonnais; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one daughter, Christina Berns; one brother, Terrance Sullivan; and one grandson, Michael Weller.
