Swen came to America when 19 years of age and was united in marriage to Emelia Johnson on April 4, 1880. Although he had passed the allotted "three score years and ten," he had been actively engaged in light work, up to three years ago when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. This enfeebled him and he gradually knew more of the infirmatites of age until his peaceful passing Thursday morning. His devoted wife and loyal son, Emil, have been his constant attendants for many weeks when he has needed care. Friends and neighbors will miss "Gus" as he was familiarly known in their several walks of life.

Swen has been a resident of Fulda and the vicinity for the past 46 years and has been a member of Woodman Lodge #487 of Fulda for 39 years.

Swen & Emelia were the parents of 4 children whom died in infancy. The surviving children are Oscar of Harlem, MT; Carl of Newell, IA; Emil of Fulda; & Mrs. J.W. Ankrum of Avoca, MN.

Swen's siblings include two brothers & one sister living in Pennsylvania who could not be present at the funeral services.

Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church in Fulda, Rev. S.V. Sydenstricker officiating.
