G. Rulon Clark 62, prominent Afton businessman and civic worker, former school teacher, and former member of the Wyoming State Legislature, died Wednesday Aug 14 at 7:30 a.m. at the Star Valley LDS Hospital of a heart attack.
Mr Clark, a diabetes victim, had been in poor health for the past several years. In February of this year he suffered a coronary occlusion and had a more severe attack on Monday, Aug 12, from which he did not recover.
George Rulon Clark was born in Provo, Utah Nov 29, 1894 a son of George Albert Clark and Dagma Alfreda Nielson. His boyhood was spent at Provo and he was educated in that city, being a graduate of the Brigham Young University. He served overseas with the American Expeditionary Force in World War I.
On June 6, 1923 he married Alda Nixon in the Salt Lake Temple. To this union were born two children, Elaine (Mrs Doyle F. Child of Afton) and Helen (Mrs Melvern Wood of Sunset, Utah).
G.R, as he was most commonly known, taught school in the Utah school systems for nine years. In 1930 he moved to Afton where he was a member of the Star Valley High School faculty for 14 years. He was an on-the-job instructor at Randolph, Utah for the Veterans administration for a period of three years. He has been the owner and operator of the Afton Pioneer Hotel since 1946. G.R. was proud of his membership in the American Legion. He had been an active member of Post No. 49 since moving to Afton and had held many offices therein including two terms as a commander. He was a past secretary of the Star Valley Chamber of Commerce and has been a member and officer in the Star Valley Hotel and Motel organization. He is a past scout and M-Men worker.
G.R. was an expert hunter and fisherman and was never more happy than when fishing on Salt River with his friends and relatives. He was honest and honorable in every respect and a host of friends will mourn his death.
