He was born in Altoona, son of Beverly and Irma (McAteer) Hatch. He married Shirley Lasher Feb. 1, 1949, in Cumberland, Md. She died in 1992.
Surviving are three sons: Jeffrey Hatch, John Hatch and Gregory Hatch, all of Altoona; two daughters: Vicki Appleman of East Freedom and Sharon Horton of Altoona; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Patrick, Richard, Kenneth and Timothy, all of Altoona, and Michael in Ohio; six sisters: Rose Everhart, Debbie Barr, Kathy Lechner and Mary Jane Mincin, all of Altoona, Irma Grace Strickland in New Jersey and Connie Cook in North Carolina; and a special friend, Phyllis Mitchell. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany; brothers: Earl, Beverly G. Jr., William and Eugene; and sisters: Bernadine Blodgett and Madeline Burns.
He was a former member of St. Mark's Catholic Church.
Lou retired as a truck driver.
He was a member of the American Legion, AARP and Altoona Area High School Alumni Association.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona (www.stevensmortuary.com). A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Stevens Memorial Chapel by the Rev. J.D. Zatalava. Committal at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
