Burton Leroy "Birdie" Hutchison, age 81, of Cifton Forge died Monday, February 18, 2008 at Lewis Gale Medical Center, Salem, Va. Born January 12, 1927 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, he was a son of the late John T. and Mary Louise Youmans Hutchison. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and had retired from Westvaco as machinist supervisor. He had been active in the community as a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church, a member and past exalted ruler of the Clifton Forge Elks No. 1065, and a past member of the Clifton Forge School Board. He was also an avid golfer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Hutchison, and a sister, Edith Snyder. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Virginia Diem Hutchison of Clifton Forge, two sons, John Hutchison and wife Susan of Clifton Forge, and Gary Hutchison of Charleston, SC, two brothers, John Hutchison and wife Cody of Puerto Rico, and Scott Hutchison of Clifton Forge, three grandchildren, Chris Hutchison of Boulder, Co, Tim Hutchison and wife Laura of Roanoke, and Macon Hutchison of Harrisonburg, a great grandson, Scott Hutchison, and a number of nieces and nephews.
