MUNCIE - Wallace L. Hays, 86, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008, at Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 16, 1922, in Monroe Township, Delaware County, the son of Charles and Della Pence Hays. He graduated from Cowan High School, in 1940, where he was president of his class, and attended Purdue University for two years.

Mr. Hays served in the Army during World War II, with Company E, 142nd Infantry, 36th Division, Texas Arrowhead, and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star.

He farmed in Monroe Township all of his life and drove a school bus for Cowan Schools for thirty-six years.

Wallace served as treasurer of the Cowan School Building Corporation for the new high school, and was director of the Oakville Elevator.

He was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans, and AARP.

Surviving are his wife, Cleo F. Anderson Hays, to whom he had been married forty-two years; his son, Michael Pullen, Muncie; two grandsons, Tony (wife, Sandra) Pullen, Belmont, Massachusetts, and Troy Pullen, Muncie; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Parson Mortuary with Pastor David Schwarz officiating. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the services on Monday at the mortuary.
