Maud was the daughter of Reverend Jacob Clay Lewis and Emily Hester [Tate] Lewis. She married Thomas Edward Taylor in Vera, Knox Co., TX 10 August 1900 after her family moved from Illinois to Texas. Maud, Tom and their two small children along with her Lewis family moved to Gomez, Texas in 1904. Tom and Maud settled on the east side of Gomez and Tom freighted from Midland and latr from Lubbock, Tahoka and Post, Texas. The planted eleven acres of cane on the east side of Gomez and made sorghum molasses. They moved west to New Mexico in 1913 and settled in Lea County. They lost their daughter, Emily, during the flu epidemic of 1918-19. They were the parents of seven children. In their later years they moved to Seminole, Texas, where they lived out the rest of their lives.
