WILLIAM A. ROBERTS, son of JOHN LANDERS ROBERTS & FRANCES A. OWENS of Congo, Cherokee County, Alabama, was born in 4 March 1861, Cedar Bluff, Cheokee County, Alabama and died on 29 January 1954 at Mountain View Hospital in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. He was 93 years old.

About 1882, WILLIAM A. Roberts married HESTER PENELOPE WEBB, the daughter of JOSEPH WEBB and NANCY RINEHART.

They had 4 children:

(1) Milton Henry Roberts married Willie Pinkney Wingo

(2) Luke Roberts died young at 18 years

(3) Effie Roberts married William Marvis Hurley

(4) Theodore William Roberts married Donna Mae Sadler

93 – Year – Old Citizen Dies in Hospital

Funeral services for William Alexander Roberts, 93, a resident of 5405 Bradford Ave., (Chattanooga, Tennessee), who died in a local hospital yesterday morning. will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at chapel of National Funeral Home.

The services will be conducted by Mr. Leslie R. Boyd of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Roberts was born in Cedar Bluff, Ala., in 1891. He was associated with the telephone system in Chattanooga Valley, Ga., from 1910 until 1920, and e installed the first telephone in Chattanooga Valley.

He is survived by two sons, Milton H. Roberts of Chattanooga, Theodore Roberts of Lebanon, Ky., and one daughter, Mrs. Effie Hurley of Rome GA. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, , 16 – great grandchildren, and three great-great-great grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be Grady Roberts, T. W. Roberts, John Brandon Hurley, Morgan Long, Floyd Terrell, Austin Ellis, Maurice Gilley and Richard Scott.

Honorary pallbearers wil be Robert Dyer, Ralph Cubne, Charlie Boyd, Charlie Morse, Neal Morse, Arthur Stoner, Joh Williams, Andrew Evans, J. C. Wingo, M. F. Wingo, E. Flury, Mike Beck and John Beck.

Interment will be at Mission Ridge Cemetery, GA.

The body will remain at the funeral home.
