Aaron Dupree Penton served in the military from 1862-1864. On April 1, 1862 he enlisted in Andulusia, Alabama in the 25th Infatry of the Confederate Army. On April 5, 1862 in Covington County, Alabama he was lead by Captain Bushnell Bell. Later he became part of the 42nd Regiment, Alabama infatry and was in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

From August 1-30, 1862 he was listed in the muster roll of the 42nd Alabama Co. 6. He was later taken prisoner and exchanged on July 4, 1863.

The Battle of Kennesawtook place June 9, 1864-June 30, 1864 in which he was wounded in this battle in Kennesaw Mountain Georgia. His leg was then amputated and he was discharged in Milner, Georgia in June 1864. He then received a pension until his death.
