Lon A. Petrella, 95, of Springfield died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center. He was born Sept. 7, 1901, in Sassoferrato, Italy, the son of Constantino and Eugenia Petrucci Petrelli. He married Mary A. Clancy in 1932; she died in 1985. A Springfield resident for most of his life, Mr. Petrella was a retired coal miner and also worked for the City of Springfield Street Department as an investigator and for the secretary of state as a stationary engineer. A democratic committeeman for many years, he was a member of St. Aloysius Church and United Mine Workers Local 9218 in Pawnee. Survivors: two daughters, Mrs. William (Jo Ann) Wente and Mrs. Leon (June) Call II, both of Springfield; two sons, Richard T. and Don P. Petrella, both of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Reka Keeley of Pickdon, Texas; a brother, Gene Petrelli of Champaign; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, the Rev. Patrick Render officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
