Art Giddings was born in Exeter, Mo., on June 25, 1927, and died in Palm Harbor, Florida on September 24, 2008. He lived in Missouri throughout his youth and began his career and family in Springfield. Art graduated from Washburn High School in 1945, and then joined the Merchant Marines, from which he was later recruited by the Army for the Korean War. After his military service, he attended technical college in Kansas City, Mo., on the GI Bill. Upon graduation, he took a job at Channel Three in Springfield and began what became a long and successful career as a television engineer. While in Springfield, he met and married his wife of 51 years, Dixie Watson Giddings, currently of Palm Harbor, Fla. Art and Dixie had two children, Gary, currently of Houston, Texas, and Tracey, currently of Palm Harbor, Florida. Art is survived by Dixie, Gary and Tracey; and also by three sisters, Thelma Norman of Mt. Ide, Ark., Jane Brown of Wichita, Kan., and Mary Johnson of Mina, Ark.; and by three brothers, Herbert Giddings of Watson, Okla., Jim Giddings of Exeter, Mo., and John Giddings of Kalene, Texas. Art was a loving and devoted father and husband and was known by all for his quiet strength and character and for his wry humor, insight, and sweet disposition. He is buried in Hazelwood Cemetery
