Note: The date, January 17, 1887, on Dr. Gordon's gravestone is incorrect. The date, January 17, 1887, is the date that his son-in-law, Mr. J. J. McGlohon, died. Mr. McGlohon is also buried in the Gordon Chapel Cemetery. The January 27th, 1887, issue of The Messenger, a newspaper published in LaFayette, Walker Co., GA, printed an obituary for Dr. Gordon and gives a date of death of January 25, 1887. This agrees with the date of death on the application to the U. S. Government for the gravestone. It is a mystery why the gravestone was incorrectly engraved.
