Mrs. Cora Hall Akins, 81-year-old mother of Guy Akins, Sr., of Houston, died Friday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Helterbrand, of Cabool.
She was born Dec. 4, 1867, in Van Buren County, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Hall. In 1894 she was married to George W. Akins and five children were born to them; two of them died in infancy.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Cecil Skyles and Mrs. Helterbrand, both of Cabool; Mrs. Ruth Dale, of Kearney, Mo.; two step-sons, Guy Akins, Sr. of Houston, and George Akins, of Eldorado, Kansas; 23 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one sister.
A few years of her early married life was spent in Oklahoma and Kansas, and in 1905, the family moved to Missouri. They moved to Leon, Kansas, in 1920, where Mr. Akins died in 1929. For the past 20 years, "Grandma" Akins, as she was affectionately known, made her home with her daughter.
She joined the Baptist Church in Adrian, Mo., in early life.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Cabool.
