YATES CENTER - Christina K. "Tina" (Carlson) Kress, 37, of Yates Center died at 10:53 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute after a four-month illness.
She was born Sept. 6, 1963, at Chanute to Charles L. and Sharon Kay (Phillips) Carlson. Her mother died when she was 3 months old.
She attended elementary schools in Stark and Elsmore and graduated from Marmaton Valley High School, Moran, in 1983. She graduated from Neosho County Community College in Chanute in 1985 and attended Mid-America Nazarene College in Olathe and Pittsburg State University.
She formerly lived at Chanute and had lived at Yates Center since 1994. She was the office manager for the Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center of Iola and Chanute.
She married Scott Kress in October 1995. They were divorced.
She was a member of the Friends Church of Stark and attended the United Methodist Church in Yates Center. She enjoyed playing softball and horseback riding.
She is survived by her father and his wife, Charles and Peggy Carlson of Savonburg; her stepmother, Jane Richardson of Chanute; two half-sisters, Michelle Morris of Joplin and Nicole Carlson of Austin, Texas; two stepsisters, Melody Burkholder of Plainville and Tami Fish of Mission; three uncles, Terry Phillips of Chanute, David Carlson of Savonburg and Lance Carlson of Stark; two aunts, Alvina Ungles of Stark and Arthena Massoth of Leavenworth; a great-uncle, Eugene Maher of Erie; and two great-aunts, Dessie Taylor of Walnut and Eleda Bird of Emporia.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents and her maternal grandfather.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Stark Friends Church with the Rev. James Uhlig and Roman Ward officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Stark.
