Little Emory was killed by a bus while making deliveries as a telegraph messenger in Prichard, Alabama. His obituary states that he took the job in hopes of making some Christmas money and had only been working a few hours when his bicycle fell beneath a city bus. He was initially buried in the Shadowlawn Cemetery in Prichard but was later moved to the Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, Georgia where he lies next to his father, William Emory Wells.
