Henry Calendar Jones was born in Nashport, Ohio. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in the Union Army and served for four years as a member of Co. B., Seventy-eighth Ohio Volunteers, in most of the big campaigns of the war including the Tennessee Campaign. After the war was over, he returned to Ohio where he engaged in his trade of stone cutter. Later he became identified with the contracting business in Columbus, OH.
