Mrs. Lydia Sharpe was born in Henry County, Indiana July 25, 1834. In a very early day she came with her parents to Pottawattamie County.
In 1853 she was united in marriage to Peter Frain. To this union four children were born, one son and 3 daughters. Of these children, three survive their mother. Daughter Mattie Elizabeth Frain passed away in 1875 and Mr. Frain died October 12, 1861.
In 1886 Mrs. Frain was married to John Sharpe, and they lived together until 1904, when death called Mr. Sharpe to that country beyond the shores of time. [Note: in the 1900 census it listed them as married for 8 years, around 1892.]
At an early date Mrs. Sharpe united with the Protestant Methodist Church and has lived a faithful Christian life all these days and died triumphant in the faith at her home in St. Francis, Kansas Sept. 25, 1913 aged 75 yrs and 2 months.
Mrs. Sharpe leaves to mourn her departure besides a host of friends, one brother living at Stewart, Nebraska; a son George H. Frain of Macedonia; adopted son Lesley Sharpe, and 2 daughters, Mrs. Mary Caven of Linn County, KS and Mrs. Maggie Price of Cheyenne Co., KS; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was from the Macedonia Methodist Church, the sermon given by the pastor Rev. H. D. Glassbarn. The pallbearers were 5 grandsons and the husband of a granddaughter; Henry Frain, A. S. Frain, Clarence Frain, Arthur Frain, Ernest Frain, and J. H. Houser. The remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband Peter Frain in the cemetery 4 miles east of Macedonia, IA.
