Helen Layton PIERCE CITY, Mo.
Helen Marie Layton, 65, Pierce City, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday at the Missouri State Chest Hospital, Mount Vernon, after a short illness. Mrs. Layton was born Dec. 18,1919, at Wentworth, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a retired secretary for Camp Crowder, where she was employed during World War II. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the church altar society and American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 65. She married Benjamin T. Layton on Feb. 19, 1943. He survives. Other survivors include 10 sons, Benjamin T. Layton Jr., John D. Layton and Douglas G. Layton, all of Pierce City, Rodney A. Layton, Kenneth D. Layton and Thomas G. Layton, all of Webb City, William B. Layton and Michael J. Layton, both of Joplin, and Edwin R. Layton and Timothy L. Layton, both of Monett; two daughters, Mary M. Blevins, Pierce City, and Tonette M. Munson, Coring, Calif.; a half sister. Mrs. Betty Kimbrough, Turlock, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Leonard Chambers will officiate. Burial, under the direction of Lakin Funeral Home will be in the church cemetery. Parish prayers will be held at 8:45 p.m. today at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
