CLAYTON — Leonard Harold Persinger, 83, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at his home after a long illness.

Born July 8, 1925, at Clayton, he was the son of the late Marty and Gracie Allen Persinger.

Mr. Persinger was a lifelong resident of Clayton, a member of the Clayton Baptist Church, a World War II veteran and a retired school bus driver and farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Thelma Miller, Luella Humphreys and Vella Persinger; and three brothers, George Persinger, Raymond Persinger and Garland Persinger.

Survivors include his wife, Elanor Keatley Persinger of Clayton; two daughters, Drese Smith and husband, Don, of Clayton, Alice Thompson and husband, Charles, of Hartsville, Tenn., and stepdaughter, Judy Blankenship and husband, Ron, of Roanoke, Va.; four sons, Leslie Persinger and wife, Regina, of Pence Springs, Eric Persinger and wife, Karen, of Clayton, Steve Bremer and wife, Betty, of Pembroke, Va., Gary Bremer and wife, Tina, of Hinton; two sisters, Garnet Humphreys of Rock, Margaret Persinger of Hillsdale; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Clayton Baptist Church, Clayton, with the Rev. Roger Persinger and the Rev. Grant Pettit officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, Clayton.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Fort Spring and one hour prior o the service Saturday at the church.
