KEYSER, W.Va. - Charles L. Shreve, 85, of HC 84, Box 86, Keyser, W.Va., died Friday, May 28, 1999, at the Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg, W.Va.

Born on Jan. 31, 1914, at Maysville, W.Va., he was a son of the late Arnold and Miranda (Sears) Shreve. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Edith ``Virginia'' (Haslacker) Shreve on Jan. 30, 1992; and by one brother, Ray Shreve.

Mr. Shreve was a retired mechanic at the Westvaco Luke Mill with 37 and one-half years of service. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church, Antioch, W.Va., and the Kelly-Mansfield Post 52 American Legion, Piedmont, W.Va.

Surviving are one daughter, Loretta Amtower and husband Leon, Burlington, W.Va.; two sons, Darl Shreve and wife Brenda, Grantsville, Md., and Kevin Shreve and wife Judy, Keyser, W.Va.; two sisters, Nellie Tichnell, Swanton, Md., and Kate Halterman, Maysville, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Petula Staggs, Tiffney Custer, Darl Shreve II, Daphne Bennear, Caleb Shreve and Zachary Shreve; and four great-grandchildren, Kirstin Custer, Brianna Custer, Morgan Custer and Chase Bennear.

Friends may call at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Antioch United Methodist Church on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Wade Sirk and the Rev. Tom Anderson officiating.

The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Thrush Cemetery, Antioch.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Antioch United Methodist Church, c/o Judy Shreve, HC 84, Box 86, Keyser, WV 26726.
