REISTERSTOWN, Md. -- (Eleanor) Shirley Granville Groleau Markarian, 79, of Reisterstown, formerly of 981 Wachusett St., Holden, died Friday, June 6, in Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
Her husband of 29 years, Aram Markarian, died in 1996. She leaves two sons, James Groleau of New Mexico and Dennis Groleau of Franklin, Mass.; a daughter, Wendy Meredith of Glen Burnie; three stepdaughters, Susan Weisman of Florida, Pamela Valdez of Worcester, Mass., and Janice Day of Dudley, Mass.; three sisters, Pauline Lind of Sturbridge, Mass., Edith Milward of Florida, and Grace Giguere of Arizona; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A stepdaughter, Gail Cason, died in 1980. She was born in Fitchburg, Mass., daughter of Everett and Edith (McLaughlin) Granville. She graduated from Fitchburg schools. She had lived here for the past year.
Mrs. Markarian was a telephone operator for Commerce Bank and New England Envelope Co. for many years. She was a member of Greendale People's Church, Worcester, and United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Wea Indian Tribe. She was leader of the Hospitality Committee at the Meadows of Reisterstown, where she lived.
Funeral services were held in Greendale Peoples Church, 25 Francis St., Worcester. Burial was in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, Mass. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, was in charge of arrangements. Donations may be made to Greendale Peoples Church, 25 Francis St., Worcester, MA 01606.
