Congressman. He graduated from the medical department of the University of Tennessee at Memphis, M.D. in 1914. He practiced medicine until World War I in which he served as a battalion surgeon in the Three Hundred and Twenty-sixth Infantry. He received the Purple Heart Medal and was discharged on October 6, 1920,. He served in the State senate from 1939 until he was elected as a Decmocrat to the Seventy-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of William B. Bankhead. He served from November 5, 1940, to January 3, 1941 but he was not a candidate for the full term. He retired from active medical practice January 1, 1958 and ran for mayor of Red Bay, Ala., 1945-1948. He was elected vice chairman for the Franklin County Democratic Committee, 1933-1937.

He was the son of Leander Jackson Weatherford and Lucinda Adalia Ritter.
