Lester W. Carr, 54, for forty years a Beloit resident, died at 11:57pm yesterday in his home, 108 1/2 Chapel St., Rockton, following a year of declining health. He was, however, able to be up and visit with friends here and in Rockton until the last three weeks when he was confined to his home.
Mr. Carr was born in Rockton, June 15, 1892, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Carr. He came to Beloit with his parents as a child, was educated in the schools here and for many years was the proprietor of a downtown tailor shop. He lived also for a time in Rockford and for the past two years in Rockton where his family settled in an early day. His grandfather, the late Edson I. Carr, was for a long time editor and publisher of the Rockton Herald and author of "The History of Rockton". His father who passed away two years ago was also much interested in historical subjects and a collector of relics pertaining to the history of the U.S.A. and this community.
Mr. Carr married Tessie Troxel on October 27, 1930 in Rockford, Ill. Lester Carr was a trustee and member of the Old Stone Congregational church in Rockton, was a member of the school board there, belonged to the Masonic lodge and the Order of Eastern Star at Rockton and the Knights of Columbus in Beloit.
Surviving relatives are his widow, Tessie I. Carr, a daughter, Laura Mae Carr; two sons by a previous marriage; Robert W. Carr, Rockton and Donald L. Carr, South Beloit; his mother, Mrs. W. B. Carr, Rockton, a brother E. I. (Deak) Carr, Beloit and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Carr Ellsworth, Milwaukee, as well as two step-sons; Robert Aimers, Beloit; Richard Aimers, St. Louis, Mo., and two step-daughters, Mrs. Irene Lemmerhirt, Minn., and Mrs. Carol Ellison, Rockford.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm at the Old Stone church, the Rev. Claude Warren officiating. Burial will be in Rockton cemetery.
