Joseph Resch was born in Breitenbrunn, Austria. He immigrated at the age of 7 with his parents and 9 siblings. They sailed aboard the ship Mimi and landed in NY on May 22, 1855. They then came to Wisconsin where Joseph remained the rest of his life.

Joseph was married to Anna Laus in 1878 and they raised four children.

He died at the age of 80 at his daughter's home in Minnesota. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Menasha with his wife. His parents, siblings and son Joseph are all buried nearby.
