Robert was the oldest son of a family that moved to Bastrop in about 1871 before moving to Frisco. He first married Sallie Phillips and had 12 children before divorcing in 1939 and marrying Billie Stover who was 36 years younger and also the sister-in-law of his son, Raymond Stark. He and Billie had two daughters.
