He was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Carrollton, Ky., the son of Leonard Boswell and Virginia Shepherd Simonton. He served in the Army during World War II. He retired in 1989 as a manager in the service section of the Kentucky School for the Blind. He was a member of Carrollton Christian Church and was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby E. Boswell; one daughter, Sally Boswell of Carrollton, Ky.; two sons, Sandy Boswell and Paul Boswell, both of Carrollton, Ky.; two step sons, Gary Bowman and John Bowman, both of Louisville, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Ebert Boswell, who died in 1978; one step daughter, Shirley Culton; his parents; and one half brother, Jack Simonton.
The funeral was at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, Ky.
