Hester Marie Johnson- Ashlock 1920 - 2008 Basham Funeral Care Mom entered into her eternal reward on November 11, 2008 in Bakersfield, CA. She was born April 8, 1920 in Wappappello, MO to James Lewis Force and Martha Lucinda (Andrews) Force. She was the eldest daughter of seven children. Arriving in Arvin, CA in 1939, she remained a resident for 69 years. She was the mother of four children, daughters, Joyce Johnson Gibson and Betty Johnson Amos; sons, Leonard Johnson and Kenneth Paul Johnson. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known as Grandma Hester to many children of Arvin. While working as a cafeteria manager at Sierra Vista School in Arvin, she created a "Clean Plate Club", to encourage the students to eat the good food that she and her staff had prepared. Always rewarding with a special treat! Her summers were spent at Camp Kern in Huntington Lake, preparing food for many Boy Scouts of Kern County. Before retiring from her profession, she was honored with a lifetime membership to the PTA for her service to the children of her community. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John William, George Wesley, Louis Minor and Milton Segal Force; sister, Ruby Ellen Boatwright; sons, Leonard and Kenneth Johnson; great granddaughter, Lindsay Johnson and special brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Frank C. Ashlock of Arvin; daughters, Joyce Johnson Gibson and spouse Loyd of Lamont and Betty Johnson Amos and spouse Gary of Bakersfield; sister, Doris Carter and spouse Marvin of Bakersfield; son, John Ashlock and spouse Val; daughter, Frances Litchenneger of OK; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; sisters-in-law, Opal Brown of Bakersfield, Lorena Johnson of Arvin and Letha Force of Bakersfield; brother-in-law, Rev. Glenn Toone and spouse Hazel and Leonard's widow, Sharon Johnson. Mom was a Gold Star mother, having lost a son in Vietnam. Visitation will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Arvin Assembly of God Church (201 So. Hill Street) on Saturday morning, November 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery District in Arvin. Memorial donations may be made to Teen Challenge, P.O.
