Lyle is the son of George Washington & Nellie Josephine (Weeks) Bonney. Husband of Phyllis Rachel (Pumphrey) Bonney. Married 16 feb 1942, Sydney, Nebraska.

Lyle Douglas Bonney was born in Cripple Creek, Colorado on April 10, 1918. He was about 2 or 3 when his parents moved the family to Denver, Colorado. Lyle was a self made man. From the age of 10 or 12 he carried the Denver Post, making collections and getting new customers. He attended high school at South Senior high School in Denver Colorado. 1936. Enlisting in the Navy imediately after graduation he served 4 years. During the 1936-1940. His travels took him to the Panama Canal, docking in Hawaii, Haiti, and many other ports. He had an emergency apendectomy aboard ship. He served on the battleship, USS New Mexico and on the Aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He worked with Richover who would later become Admiral and be called the father of Nuclear navy. On the Enterprise he was a radioman on a TBF Devestator torpedo plane. He left the service when his tour was up but was later drafted into the Army under General Patton when World War II began. However he only served a year and was released because he had previously served in the Navy and he was an employee of the army, . He worked at the Lawory Army Airfield in Denver, Colorado.working on electical systems on planes working up to Foreman supervising 20 women war workers.
It was at this time he met and married his wife Phyllis Rachel Pumphrey on February 16, 1942. She worked at an defense contractor that made bullets for the Army.
He and Phyllis had three children in Denver, Colorado; Douglas George, Leland (died 5 days after birth), and Gary Wayne.
In October 1948, he moved his family to Las Cruces, New Mexico. He worked at White Sands Missile Range in the Signal Corps Radar Division. Although he did not have the college credits required for this job several of the scientists vouched for his abilities and he go the job. At first he worked on the V2 rockets that were brought from Germany after World War II. He and a fellow worker was working on one of the rockets when it was set off. They scrambled and escaped with their lives. He later specialized in radar technology first as an radar operator then chief of Electronics Development division, research and development at the same base.
While in Las Cruces, he and Phyllis had 2 more children, Donald Lyle, and Linda Gail.
In 1962 he moved his family to New Carrollton, Maryland. He began working for NASA (National Aeoronautics and Space Agency) at Goddard Space Flight Center, in Greenbelt, Maryland. He was in charge of electrical work on 12 missile tracking stations around the world during Mercury, Gemini, and Apolla space missions. He worked there until his retirement in 1973.
He retired from the Government and he and Phyllis along with children Donald and Linda moved to Forsyth, Missouri.
While there he participated in politics, volunteer fireman, local library, and the extension service of Missouri. He also served as president of his state National Asoociation of Retired Federal Employees. He served on the School Board. He served on a committee for establishing an ambulance in the local area.
He and Phyllis attended the local Community Presbyterian church in Forsyth, Taney co., Missouri. He was an Alderman at his church.
He was a member of the Elks Club in Las Cruces where he served as exalted ruler. In College Park, Md. and Forsyth Mo. he was also a member of Elks. He was also a member of the Lions Club, in Forsyth, Mo. He also belong to the Masons. He and Phyllis were on the Board of Directors of School of Ozarks, and Forsyth Library in Forsyth Mo. Lyle was president of the library
He died on August 25, 1994 was cremated and his ashes reside at the Ozarks Memorial Park, Branson, Taney Co., Missouri.
