Jesse Alfred Recoy was born in Illinois, May 22, 1880. He was the son of Peter and Anna Recoy and was one of six children. He spent his boyhood life and received his schooling in Illinois. He came west at the age of 23 and settled near Chamberlain ,SD.

In 1908, he married Nora Kinkennon at Mitchell, SD. They lived near Mitchell,SD. for 15 years, moving to Vivian, SD in 1923. They have farmed west of town near the county line since then. Ten children were born to them.

One infant son died in 1925. The nine surviving children are four sons; James, Ray, Robert and Ted and five daughters; Anna and Helen, Mrs. Mae Hedlund, Mrs. Margarette Foster and Gladys of Recoy . He was also survived by six grandchildren, his mother Anna Recoy, two brothers, Roy Recoy, and Will Recoy, a sister Mrs Lulu
Fisher.

His father died in 1927. Two sisters Myrtle and Nettie also preceded him in death.
