John was the third child of Norvil Ellis Taylor and Cleo Houser Taylor. He was the oldest son, third child of ten. He served his country during the Korean War in St. Petersburg, VA; New Rochelle, France; Ingrannes, France; Gremerhaven, Germany. He was honorably discharged and went to work as a fence builder, fire fighter, and miner/hoistman. He owned his own farm and loved farming. He was married to the love of his life for 50 years and had three children. At times in his life he worked as a lineman at a potato plant, maintenance supervisor, and farmer. He started working at age 9 as a farmer along with his father.
He grew a huge vegetable garden every year and loved to share what he grew. He was a great husband, father and friend.
