MYSTERY VEILS VIOLENT DEATH

Mystery Tuesday surrounded the cause of death of Vivian Bell, 34, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, who died in the Salt Lake General hospital 9:45 p. m. Monday, a day after he was found lying undressed and half conscious in a pool of stagnant water a mile west of the salt works.

Hospital attaches said Bell succumbed to a fractured skull, succumbed fracture of the pelvis, shock, exposure to the sun and multiple cuts and bruises.

Despite an investigation that lasted until a few minutes before Bell died, sheriff's officers were unable to determine definitely how Bell was injured. Sheriff S. Grant Young said the most likely cause was that Bell who apparently had been drinking heavily, fell from a freight train, wandering about the flats, shedding his clothing under the burning sun, and finally either collapsed or plunged into the pool because of agonizing thirst. Bell never fully regained consciousness and his murmurings before death were incoherent.

His parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bell, who came here from Lava Hot Springs, said they had not seen son for an year. They said they believed he recently had been trucking produce from Idaho Falls and prior to that, had worked in Nevada mines.

At the time officers were of an opinion Bell had been beaten and robbed by hoodlums, who left him on tho flats. But they could establish no motive for robbery, as there was no indication Bell had carried any money. "The case is closed, unless there are new developments", Sheriff Young said.

Bell was born at Lava Hot Springs April 2, 1002. He was unmarried.

Surviving him besides his parents, are two sisters, Mrs Vella Currence of Lava Hot Springs Id, and Mrs. Blanche Bath of Corrington, Wyo., and two brothers, Marion and Arvin Bell, of Lava Hot Springs.

The body was taken to Lava Hot Springs, where serviced will be held.
