Chico Enterprise-Record, Wednesday, November 28, 1951: "Maggie Smith Is Taken by Death. Maggie (Nannie) Smith, a resident of Durham for the past 45 years, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Wedericksen, Tuesday evening. She suffered a stroke 3 1/2 years ago and has been confined to her bed since that time. She was born in Bremond, Texas, April 23, 1873, where she received her schooling and grew to womanhood. In 1889 she was married to William Bibb Smith at Gatesville, Texas. Forty five years ago they moved to Durham, where her husband ranched until his death in 1926. She was a member of the Durham United Brethren Evangelical Church, Live Oak Camp, Royal Neighbors of America, and Durham Grange No. 460. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Deveney, of Sacramento, and Mrs. Gladys Wederiksen, of Durham; two sons, Kenneth H. and Dick Smith, both of Durham; six grandchildren and six great-grand children, and two sisters, Mrs. R.D. Smith and Mrs. T.W. Salisbury, both of Texas. Funeral services will be held in the Durham United Brethren Evangelical Church, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Friends may call at the Huddleston Funeral Chapel until noon Saturday. Interment will be in the family plot in the Dayton Cemetery."

Funeral services for Maggie (Nannie) Smith, a resident of Durham who died Tuesday evening, will be held in the Durham United Brethren Evangelical Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Ellsworth Benedict officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in the Dayton Cemetery."

Funeral services for Maggie Smith, resident of Durham for the past 45 years, were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Durham Community Church with Rev. Ellsworth Benedict officiating. Marilyn McNabb and Mary Nelson sang `The Great Physician' and `Safe in the Arms of Jesus,' accompanied by Mrs. William Stevens at the church organ. Friends serving as casketbearers were W.W. Wahl, C.A. Schab, Bert Strong, E.G. England, W.L. Owings and Leroy Ford. Interment was in the family plot in the Dayton Cemetery. The Huddleston Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements."
