William Daniel (Danny) Akins, 69, died November 15,2008 after an extended illness. He was born on May 21,1939 in Savannah, Ga. to the late Wilhemina Monscesse Akins and Theron Jack Akins.

After graduating from Commercial High School in 1957, He began his employment with Sears Roebuck & Company and served forty years with the Georgia National Guard with active duty in Desert Storm and retired with 25 years of Civil Service. Mr. Akins is a Past President of the Chatham Artillery Military Organization, and a member of Alee Temple Shrine Unit , Coastal Football Official's Association, and Cobra Club in Savannah. In addition, he enjoyed volunteering his time as a little league coach in baseball, basketball and football.

After moving to Waycross he worked as a Real Estate Agent with Monroe Realty and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church serving on the finance and Pastor's Parish committee and was active in the Southeast Georgia Board of Realtors.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Morton Akins; Waycross. Two Daughters, Phyllis Akins Morris (Eddie) and Rebecca Ann Akins of Savannah; Three step-sons Dr. David Morton (Kalista), Dr. William Alan Morton (Kelly) of Waycross and James T. Morton of Columbus, GA: and 12 grand-children. ( Keri Ann Lewis, Royce Morris, Mindee Morris, Matthew Morton, Sam Morton, Charlie Morton, Lindsey Morton, Mckenzie Morton, Natalie Morton, MeLeah Morton, Janey Morton and Katie Morton).

A visitation at Miles-Odum Funeral Home will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 6PM - 8PM. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Waycross.

A Savannah visitation will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Fairhaven Funeral Home in Garden City from 6PM- 8PM. The burial and a grave side service will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 11AM.

The family request memorials be sent to Hospice Satilla, 317 Plant Ave., Waycross, Ga. 31501 or to the American Cancer Society.
