APPLEBY Ronald C. Appleby Construction official, 60 Ronald C. Appleby died on Thursday, April 5, 2007, at his home in Monroe Township. He was 60 years old. Funeral services will be private. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Township, N.J. 08831 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a tribute service beginning at 7 p.m. For directions please visit www.demarcofuneralhome.com. Raised in Spotswood, Mr. Appleby moved to Monroe Township in 1972, where he lived the rest of his life. A 1965 graduate of South River High School, Ron co-owned Appleby Electric for many years. He was construction official in Monroe Township for over 25 years and was a director of construction there for the last 10 years. He also had been a construction official in Old Bridge for two years and in Washington Township for several years. He was one of the few building officials to have earned the highest building inspection licenses in all fields, which include fire, building and plumbing. Mr. Appleby was a former Monroe Township councilman, where he served on the planning board, shade tree commission and insurance commission. He was proudest of his work for the Monroe Township Municipal Utilities Authority (MTMUA), where he served as chairman for the last 24 years. During his tenure there, the number of customers grew fourfold to over 16,000. In spite of major expenditures in infrastructure to accommodate this growth and despite marked improvements in water quality, there has been no rate increase in charges for water and sewer for the last 16 years. Ron was a champion of water conservation, as was recognized by the Association of Environmental Authorities of New Jersey in its Wave Award of Forward Thinking. The organization also named him Commissioner of the Year for 2004. Ron was a longtime member and former officer of South River Elks Lodge 2033. He is survived by his parents, J. Randolph Bud Appleby III and Marie (Jaggers) of Toms River. He was the loving husband of 41 years to Donna M. (Gusz) of Monroe Township and father of Ronald C. Appleby Jr. and his wife, Lucia of New Brunswick. He is also survived by his brother, Randy IV and his wife, Judy of Toms River and several aunts, uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ron was devoted to his family and friends and will be sorely missed. Memorial contributions may be made to the B.P.O.E. Lodge 2033, 205 Main St., South River, N.J. 08882.
