His obituary from the November 10, 1922 Brownsburg Record:

Simon P. Weddle, aged 91 years, passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 7th, at the home of his son, Charles E. Weddle, 1436 West 27th Street, Indianapolis.

He was born in Floyd County, Virginia, May 8, 1831, and grew to manhood there. He was married to Sarah Thompson in 1852, which union was blessed with three children, Joel Merrit, Mary Isabelle and Nancy Catherine.

He served three years in the Confederate Army and in 1867 moved to Indiana with his family, settling first near North Salem.

On February 5, 1877 his wife died and he remained single until November 20, 1881, when he returned to Virginia and married Mrs. Angelina Harter. Four children were born to this union: Bennie Clarence, Charles Everett, Asa Edgar and Lizzie May.

He was past middle life when he made a public profession of faith in Christ and united with the Baptist church at Pittsboro and was baptized by Elder W. M. Benson, living a devout and faithful life the remainder of his days.

Feb. 11, 1910, his wife died and for several years his daughter kept house for him. Since her marriage about seven years ago, he has lived alone in his home on North Green Street, Brownsburg, and was beloved by a large circle of neighbors and friends.

About two years ago he made preparation for his own funeral and left an outline of an obituary with Elder R. A. Fuson. In this request he selected the following pall-bearers: Martin Johnson, Ed Sawyer, Ed. Nash, Jack Linton, Anderson Smith and Mat Hilton. He asked that W. F. Evans be funeral director and that the funeral services be conducted at the Pittsboro Baptist Church by Elders R. A. Fuson and E. A. Williams. He also named Bennie C. Weddle to have charge of his estate and settle up his business affairs.

The funeral services were conducted according to his request yesterday, (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the K. of P. cemetery at Lizton.

Information not verified, but found on ancestry.com indicates that he married Sarah Thompson there on May 17, 1852 and that his parents were David and Catherine (Stigleman) Weddle.

¹ The great granddaughter of Simon and Angeline Weddle wrote to indicate that he married Angeline after his first wife died and they had a daughter, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Weddle, (who was her grandmother). Elizabeth's married name was Mrs. Charles Herdrich, not Hendricks (as was published in the obituary). Both Charles and Lizzie Herdrich are buried next to Simon and Angeline Weddle. Also, Amy Weddle, a cousin of Lizzie (Weddle) Herdrich's, is buried in this cemetery.
