Sally Ann Porta, 85, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Fort Smith. She was born June 22, 1923, in St. Louis. She was a retired secretary for the Fort Smith Police Department and a former employee of the Assessor's Office, a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, member of Purple Heart Auxiliary No. 47 and Embroidery Guild and the widow of the late Pat Porta.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Joe Horn of Fort Smith; son, James Porta of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Veronica Porta and Jeffrey and Justin Brandt; and three great-grandchildren, Jodie Moore, Halie Brandt and Ethyn Brandt.

Sally Ann was born Grace Laverne HAAS in St. Louis, Missouri to Zelda H. Fisher and Joe Issac HAAS.
She was adopted by the Solomon's in Missouri and she was given the name Flora Belle.
She legally changed her name to Sally Anne HENDRICKSON as an adult.

Sally and I corresponded regularly through the years and were distantly related with the same great-grandfather. The above bio came directly from her correspondence with me and she searched tirelessly through the years on her "real" family history".
