J. W. Boone, one of Oregon's native sons, who was born a poor boy and spent his first thirty-three years of his life in the hardest kind of farm labor. He is a self made man and a credit to the Maker. Born in Benton County, September 4th 1864, he came to Crook in 1882 and worked as farm hand and cowboy until 1897. Although enduring many hardships in early life he picked up a good business education, of which he is now making good use."

"In November, 1879, with the savings of his farm labor he opened a harness and saddle shop in Prineville, where his integrity and business industry soon established him in a lucrative trade. His workmen are the best that money can employ, and his saddle makers have made their trade their life's profession. His workshop is a veritable bee-hive of activity, and the work turned out is inferior to none. His goods have won their way to the front by hard and active competition, and all the recommendation they now require is the stamp 'J. W. Boone.'"

"Mr. Boone's stock is complete in every detail and the customer is almost sure to find what he wants in the large stock of harness and saddles, if not his orders can be filled upon the shortest notice, and work made to order is guaranteed to give satisfaction. He uses the famous "White River" saddle tree, which is superior to any thing else in the market."

John Wilburn Boone, 75, is Buried Sunday"

"Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock for John Wilburn Boone, 75 years of age, who passed away January 4th at his home in Portland. The services were conducted at the First Baptist church, with Rev. A. Ted Goodwin in charge."

"Mr. Boone was born September 4th, 1865, near Corvallis. He came to Prineville more than 50 years ago, where he made his home until about 1926, after the death of Mrs. Boone. He was a direct descendant of Daniel Boone, noted frontiersman."

"Mr. Boone served as postmaster in Prineville for nine years, during Woodrow Wilson's administration. He also was active as a farmer for a number of years, and engaged in the harness and saddle making business with Dave Still during the early years of his residence in Prineville. He is survived by one brother, who lives at McKenzie Bridge, and one son, Price Coshow, of Prineville."

His wife's sister gave the information on Jacob's death certificate. I believe that his parents' names are incorrect on the death certificate (Marion and Irene).

Jacob, the son of Joshua Maurice/Morris Boone and Mary Lucinda (Minkler) Boone, was born in Benton County, Oregon, about the same year according to the 1870 and 1880 census records.

Jacob (son of Joshua and Mary Lucinda) also had a brother Walter. Jacob worked in a harness shop in Prineville, Oregon, for 8 years until 1931 per his death certificate.
