MRS. FRANCES FOSTER
Mary Frances Barnett, youngest daughter of David and Elizabeth Barnett, was born in Bedford county, Pa., Jan. 10, 1860, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gail Clowser, Feb. 7, 1954 having reached the age of 94 years.
When a small child, she came with her parents to Lucas county where spent most of her life. When a young girl, she was converted and joined the Methodist church and remained true to her faith the rest of her life.
On Oct. 1, 1876, she was united in marriage to Wayne Foster at the home of the Rev. Hixon, east of Chariton. Mr. and Mrs. Foster were privileged to spend 50 years together and celebrated their golden wedding in 1926. Thirteen children, six boys and seven girls were born to this union. One son, Harley died in infancy. The others all grew to manhood and womanhood and had families of their own.
Those who have preceded Mrs. Foster besides the infant son are her husband, a son, Gilbert and a daughter, Bessie. Those remaining are Charles of Longmont, Colo.; Alma Threlkeld of Bellingham, Wash.; Dr. Ila Hefner, Wray, Colo.; Mrs. Iva Hefner, Wichita, Kans.; (Ila and Iva being twins) Thurston of Evanston, Wyo.; Leslie of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Viola F. Conklin, Hempstead, L. I., New York; Roy, Bernice Victor and Lola Clowser, all of Chariton, 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She lost her eyesight six years ago and had been confined to her bed since September, 1952. She was very patient and never complained of her afflictions. The past eight months, her granddaughter, Donna Jean Clowser, has assisted her mother, Mrs. Clowser, in caring for her.
She leaves a host of relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
Mrs. Foster was a great-great-granddaughter of Thomas White, who was a member of the famous Boston Tea Party and in 1901 received an invitation to attend the reunion and picnic of relatives of Thomas White at Coalmont, Pa.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. A.E. Beals Tuesday, Feb 9 at the Miley Chapel. Burial was in the Oxford cemetery. Pall bearers were two grandsons, Lyle Foster and David Foster and the following four are husbands of her granddaughters, Ed Truman, Tom Smith, John Wells and Gasper Fazio.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Foster and son, Jerry of Gowrie, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Foster and Mr. and Mrs. David Foster of Mt. Pleasant, Dr. and Mrs. D.C. Hefner of Wichita, Kans.; Dr. Ila Hefner of Wray, Colo.; Mrs. Lois Lepley and daughter of Versailles, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Gasper Fazio of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Foster of Knoxville; Mr. and Mrs. Alva McFarland of Russell and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Norris and Amy Norris from Newbern.
