He was the father of John Montgomery and William Wallace JR, they were all veterans of the Civil War, and brought a saw mill to the Black Hills around 1880. He has a military stone in the field where this cemetery is, his sons are buried in Hot Springs SD on in National Cemetery at Hot Springs and the other in the STate Solders Home Cemetery.
He was married to Rachel Montgomery and she must have died before they came to the Black Hills, they had other children, Olivia, and Robert who stayed in Iowa.
