Final Rites Held For Edward Barr
Funeral services for Edward Lee Barr were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lucedale Methodist Church, with Rev. W.C.M. Baggett, Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery, under the direction of George County Funeral Home.
Barr, owner of Barr's Insurance Agency, and an active church and civic worker, died Thursday night at a Mobile hospital following a brief illness. He was 46.
He was a native of George County and resided in Lucedale. He was a member of Lucedale Methodist Church, the Methodist Men's Club, an officer in the Methodist Men's Bible class and a trustee of the church.
Barr was also a member of Lucedale Rotary Club, R.P. Bowen Masonic Lodge No. 439, Howell-Grantham Post No. 53, the American Legion, and the George County Chamber of Commerce, which he was serving as vice president at the time of his death.
He was also an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hazel Galloway Barr; his mother, Mrs. C.S. Barr, Lucedale; a brother, Butler Barr, Independence, Mo.; four nieces and a nephew.
Active pallbearers were Dick Taylor, Earl Bounds, Doc Graham, Herman Crain, Mike Ratliff, Emmett Hughes, W.A. Ballow, Jr., Tim Dudley and Burkitt Read. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Methodist Men's Bible Class, the Methodist Men's Club, R.P. Bowen Lodge and the American Legion.
