Mrs. Carlisle was a native of Copiah County and lived in Jackson until 1960. She moved back to Copiah County where she operated Verna's Beauty Shop until retiring. She was a charter member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She attended Springs of Praise Church in Crystal Springs where she worked in the nursery.

Ashley and husband Terry Lynn of Edwards; great grandchildren, Tonya Marie Whittington, Stephaney Ranea Ashley and husband Teddy Lynn Ashley, and Brandy Annette McLendon; great great grandchildren, Andrew Tripp Whittington II, Aundrea Marie Whittington, Kenneth Ray Dykes, Philip Michael Ramsey, Yonea Smiley, Kenric Smiley, Destiny Smiley, Christa Annette McLendon, Gillian Nichole Brown, James Earl Parnell, John William Ashley, and Shelby Avanell Ashley.
