Verna Ashley Carlisle, 98, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at her residence. Visitation will be 5pm-8pm at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Services will be 10am Saturday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst with burial in Hazlehurst Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Carlisle was a native of Copiah County and lived in Jackson until 1960. She moved back to Copiah County where she operated Verna's Beauty Shop until retiring. She was a charter member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She attended Springs of Praise Church in Crystal Springs where she worked in the nursery.
Survivors include: daughter, Joy C. Phillips and husband J. W. of Hazlehurst; granddaughter, Brenda P. Ashley and husband Terry Lynn of Edwards; great grandchildren, Tonya Marie Whittington, Stephaney Ranea Ashley and husband Teddy Lynn Ashley, and Brandy Annette McLendon; great great grandchildren, Andrew Tripp Whittington II, Aundrea Marie Whittington, Kenneth Ray Dykes, Philip Michael Ramsey, Yonea Smiley, Kenric Smiley, Destiny Smiley, Christa Annette McLendon, Gillian Nichole Brown, James Earl Parnell, John William Ashley, and Shelby Avanell Ashley.
