WEST FRANKFORT - Dorothy Edna Boner-Blessin, 88, of West Frankfort died Friday, March 16, 2001, at 7:35 a.m. at Union Hospital in West Frankfort.

Mrs. Blessin was born Oct. 24, 1912, a daughter of William Roy and Mary Belle McClintock Boner. She first married Carl H. Keuhn in Chester on May 19, 1934. He died August 19, 1978. She then married Edward Blessin on January 21, 1983, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Metropolis.

Mrs. Blessin was a graduate of Fresno State University and taught in the public grade school systems in California. Mrs. Blessin was very proud to have taught at the old Union School, located south of West Frankfort, where he grandfather, father and her three daughters attended.

Mrs. Blessin was an active member of the First Baptist Church of West Frankfort, the Eastern Star in California, where she was a Past Worthy Matron, the Order of Amarynth, where sh was a Past Royal Matron, Royal Neighbors of California, National Teachers Association, AARP and the California Retired Teacher's Association.

Mrs. Blessing was a seasoned traveler and music was an integral part of her life. She also pursued her love of genealogy with great vigor and was an early member of the Genealogy Society.

She is survived by her husband and three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and J.D. Simmons of Sanger, Calif., Nancy and Bryant Thompson of St. Louis, Mo., Marsha and Harley Roberts of Vasalia, Calif.; step daughter and her husband, Carolyn M. and Joe Herbert of West Frankfort; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-stepgranddaughter; a brother, Eugene Boner of West Frankfort; and two sisters, Virginia Taylor of New Hope, Minn. and Mary Jane Stanhouse of West Frankfort.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl H. Kuehn, her parents, sister Olive Boner, and a brother Roger Boner.

Funeral services for Mrs. Blessin will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2001, at Stone Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Rev. Bill Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Boner Cemetery. Friends of the Dorothy Blessin family may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Sunday, March 18, 2001, and until the funeral hour Monday morning at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Music Fund of the First Baptist Church or Boner Cemetery.
