Earl Wayne Featherston, 87, died at the home of his son in Griggstown, New Jersey on Monday, March 26, 2007.
Mr Featherston, known as Pete to his family, grew up in Coryell County, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1939. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1940. During his twenty year career in the military he served in Coffeyville, Kansas; Heidelberg, Germany; Denver, Colorado; Osaka, Japan; and San Antonio, Texas. When he retired in 1960, he took a job as a nuclear medical technician at The New York Hospital in Manhattan. At that time he moved with his family to Kendall Park, New Jersey, where they lived for twelve years. He later worked at various other hospitals, most recently retiring from Scott and White in Temple, Texas. He then moved to Oregon near his daughter for nine years, and in September 2004 went to live with his son in Griggstown, New Jersey.
Survivors include his widow, Lois Featherston; sons Michael of Ewing, New Jersey; David of Fredricksburg, Virginia; Teff of Griggstown, New Jersey; Tim of Morgan's Point, Texas; Tom of Hereford, Arizona; and daughter, Priscilla Martin of Damascus, Oregon. His surviving siblings are: Juanita Shelton of Hampton, Virginia; Jim Featherston of Greenville, Texas; and John Featherston of Bryan, Texas.
He will be remembered by his family for his expansive knowledge of medicine, his unorthodox approach to problem solving, and his endless entertaining stories.
