Aretta Grace Kemplin
Mrs. Vernard Kemplin, 33, passed away at her home west of Oshkosh early Monday morning [August 2, 1948]. Her death came as a shock to the community as she had not been ill.
Born Grace Starkey on September 26, 1914, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Starkey who then made their home in Grant county. She attended rural schools and then went to Ogallala where she was a student in the high school.
On April 21, 1933, she was united in marriage to Vernard Kemplin of Lewellen. To this union seven children were born, all of whom are living today.
After their marriage, the Kemplins lived in the Lewellen community most of the time until. this last April when they moved to a farm a mile west of Oshkosh. Outside of a few months in Keith county, they resided in Garden county all of their married life.
Surviving are her husband and seven children. The oldest, Lee, is 14 and the youngest, Donald, is nine months old. The other five children are Erma, Catharine, Nellie, George and Viola.
She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Starkey, who now make their home at Lewellen. Seven sisters and four brothers are also living, being located in scattered parts of the country.
Funeral services will be held in Lewellen at 2:00 p. m. this coming Friday at the Methodist church. The Wright Mortuary will be in charge of the services and final interment will be made in Ash Hollow cemetery.
